View Full Version : XBox Live % cut per unit downloaded?...

There has been 'some debate' (mainly by me) on Yak's (Llamasoft) forum about the % cut you get from digital downloads via XBox Live (in his/their case 'Space Giraffe' which went up there very recently).

I bought this title as I am an old skool Minter fan but nobody there is talking which is fine, but does anybody know what the royalty rate actually is or are prepared to say?

I 'imagine' it to be 40 to 50% given that is the standard rate most places I've been on PC and mobile (the later being not so common mind).

I'm not aiming for Live at all personally, it's not even on my radar but as an indie I would just like to know and nothing else - but nobody is giving it seems :)

Thanks for various input on this via PM (case closed).

I was looking forward to it. Then I downloaded the demo and ran a country mile.

That's the odd thing with Yak's stuff you either love it or hate it I guess.

It is very hard on the eyes not to mention to get up to the high levels.

It is very him tho all over and the debate about it rages on over at the Llamasoft forums - some got very heated which is a real shame given it is just a game.

Such is life.

I'm not sure I can say the amounts, but rates on console systems are similar to what you'll find on specialised PC delivery systems, as opposed to e.g. MSN or Big Fish.

They're pretty good actually.

As for Yak's games [as a fellow YakYaker] - it's a matter of taste and they're for a niche audience. I respect him for what he does, even if his work isn't always my thing.

The industry needs personalities and mavericks a lot more than it needs another EA producer taking the credit for a game they hardly touched (as various threads over at TheChaosEngine will testify to).

I agree totally ;)

Hey Alex, is the chaos engine worth a read? I'm currently only visiting two websites a day and I could use something new.

Not sure I classify as "industry" now though :)

Yes you'd classify!

TheChaosEngine is valid for Indie types, although it's generally comprised of people working full-time in the game industry (or who used to). You do need to be vouched for before getting access to the private areas - this is to stop both trolling and certain corporate issues (with rather mixed success).

Some useful stuff on there, but more industry orientated for obvious reasons. I don't find much crossover with these forums which is why I read both.

Cool, if I sign up can I use you as a ref?

I'm a member of a rather more secret industry site, or was.. but I think it lapsed. I got tired of "the industry" quite a bit.

If there's something worth talking about on there, or at least some good rants, I'm there!

Alex, if you see this can you vouch for me. Signed up as zoombapup (as usual).

Dont know who actually runs the thing so dont know how the vouch system works.

There are many useful threads on TCE and I'd say it's well worth joining.

Of course there are the usual topics of discussion which can only end badly too, like religion and politics.

I've found that most open forums get flooded with newbies and most closed forums get tired and start rehashing a lot of thier own arguments.

Maybe its the nature of the beast.

But I need something new. Indiegamer definitely isnt cutting it for me right now.

Chaos Engine is well worth joining, Phil.

If you need another voucherer, give me a shout :)

Phil, Cliffski, PM me with the email address you used and which admin you contacted. I've vouched for indie people before so it should be fine.

It seems like Chaos Engine isn't very welcoming of indies, unfortunately. :(

Yes it would appear so, tho my personal background was mainstream industry of course up until 2002 - oh well no biggy - I'm not that bothered really and years since I used to post on The Filthy Truth (much like The Chaos Engine it would seem).

Mikademus - It doesn't have anything to do with being indie, it'll be a mixture between being behind on applications (you may have to email more than once) and there have been "issues" with the wrong people being approved and staff then getting into serious trouble related to their postings being spotted.

It's also private to stop eiger style wind-ups, for those who remember.

TCE is quite different to these forums and I'm not sure how useful it is for most people who are regulars on here.
