Which one will bring ppl to play your game or at least get a taste of it as quickly as possible ??I think both have their advantages and disadv.
I've seen alot of developer website and usually they only post screenshot and demo download. I think this is too cumbersome for me as a customer who just stroll by and see what's cookin. Reason being is :
1. I can only judged from screenshot.
2. I need to download it.. okay, so I have to wait, even with DSL 10MB will still takes 4-5 minutes.
3. I have to install it first which mean I must do it on my computer. This is bad since if I see this game during lunchbreak at my office.. than I must go home or probably I'll forget it when I finally got home.
4. If I don't like it I also have to uninstall it.Okay this is so bad in many ways.. for those of you who use Windows (duhh.. our games are all for Windows), you'll know that perpetual install-uninstall will clog your Windows.
That;s alot of work for "casual gamers" who needs things "casual" :D
With web version of your game, people can just.. play, anytime anywhere. get a taste of your game instantly and furthermore.. it'll attract ppl to come to your site, I mean.. hey.. I can see no reason why I should go to some www.indiestudio.com frequently if it's just a plain site that sells 2-3 titles.
But web games have pitfalls too such as :
1. The quality of the web game version will never match your game (art, sound, speed). This may bring a bad judgement to the customer, they may think your game is bad which is bad !!!
2. If they get to play it on the web.. what's stopping them to keep on playing it from the web (no-thing/one can)? Worse.. why I need to buy it ??
Altough there are still ways to lock your web games (locking time, level, etc)
3. it probably costy to create a web game version.
So that's the pros and cons. Have any of you guys do a litle bit statistic on which one worked best for you ? I know some of you have a web version of their games.. like.. cough..richo..cough..chet..cough.. :D
