I checked around a bit and couldn't find a good answer, but sorry if I just missed it or if this gets posted like a million times.

I'm looking for a cheap, reliable form of sending my artists payment electronically. I've been, so far, mailing checks. Not a fan.

Paypal has been too often accused of ripping people off and others either charge high fees or I'm just leery about... Anyone have any good programs/sites/etc with which to do this?

Again, sorry if this is repetitive. Feel free to just link me to the answer and lock my topic. Thanks ahead of time!

The only other thing that comes to mind is sending via Western Union. Other than that... :shrugs:

if it's not a big enough payment to be worth sending a wire, paypal isn't that much of a risk? :)

I never had a problem with PayPal, either paying someone or getting paid.

I have heard of a very large company having trouble with paypal, but never heard freelancers complain. I never had any problem myself.

What exactly is wrong with a digital transfer?, do you have to pay for this in America/elsewhere or something?

I thought everyone did their banking online these days tbh. We pay all our creditors via online banking, and that's how all of our debtors pay us. I've not received a cheque in years and very rarely have to send them.

You could use Amazon's new payment service... http://www.amazon.com/b/?node=342430011

I think you'll actually have to code your own interface for it though.

In the US if you have a business bank account you can do a wire transfer to most banks anywhere in the world (except probably Waziristan) for about $30.

I use Paypal though. Never had a problem. If Paypal doesn't service the country then you can go with moneybookers. It's a funny sounding name (like you were making racetrack bets) but it's backed by a big Brit bank. And it has worked well for me.

There have been problems with maybe 0.0001% of paypal transactions, but "OH NOES! Could happen to me!". Planes crash, yet people still fly. Muggers walk the streets, yet people still go out. In other words...

To me this is a rather strange problem, and I suspect this might be due to differences in technological landscapes. In Sweden we simply do an online transfer from bank account to bank account. We register the recipient's account and then we can transfer money from our account to his with a message attached. Does it not work like that in the US? Or I take it you need to transfer money globally, and the banks' handling fees are steep...?

The US banks (and Canadian to a lesser extent) are a bunch of criminals. My US business account charged us $20 to send a wire and $20 to receive a wire.

In contrast, my Canadian personal accounts only charge to send a wire. The US banks are just charging it because they can.

We have something similar to this in Canada, in the form of "Interac Email Transfer". It costs the sender $1.50 . But I think there's a limit of around $1000.
