This is the first time I've seen this type of marketing (http://mooktown.blogspot.com/2007/08/new-casual-gaming.html) of casual games, its a pretty neat idea and it definitely works well. It's probably something that is out of reach for most of us indies though.

Has anyone seen anything similar elsewhere in the world?

Wow. That is really, really cool. I am selling my next game to Pop Cap. They have an incredible marketing team.

I've heard there are also Bejeweled-themed slot machines in casino's. I've not seen one though.

But, if the whole row are blue jewels you've already won, why would you scratch them out and risk not getting three in a row underneath?

I was in Washington last year for Thanksgiving and I bought a "Slingo" lottery scratch ticket for my wife from one of the automated stands in the grocery store. I kept staring and staring at it and knew that I had to buy it (even though I usually stay away from lottery tickets like the plague).

I was blown away, and had about the same feeling that the blog author talked about...for me, it felt like casual games had come to yet another invisible "benchmark" when I saw it...

Here in Ontario we had Tetris (branded with the version of the logo usually seen on Nintendo's version) and Sudoku scratchers.

That's exactly how I felt actually, thanks for putting it into words. Much to my wife's bemusement I still haven't scratched it yet :P
