Some interesting data from XBLA over at Gamasutra

http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=15117

Interesting points:

4 of the top 5 games for average session length are casual games (and 7 of 10 total!) I guess casual gamers don't play in short bursts? :)
Most all of the games are ports, the original works are at best scarce (I think the 'Sundance of games' moniker might have been a little over-reaching, there aren't many Indies! ...and even less original content ;))
There are 4 casual games in the total minutes chart
Geometry Wars was #6 in total minutes!?

The image of someone booting up their 360 play to Uno, Zuma or Jewel Quest is all kinds of wrong. Maybe that's why the units brick so often, out of shame for their users :)

Poor XBOX 360s. Well, their visual appearance DOES look like it was made for a more "hardcore" crowd. Maybe they should make XBOX 360 Lite and make em in rainbow colors. Then they would not die in shame, as they would be fulfilling their purpose.

Hey well least we made it for 2nd and 8th for total length.

...just need to work on girth I guess :)

Seriously though, Its pretty apparent that the Xbox is being positioned as a component for the masses.

Folks can download movies and shows, etc. It's a conduit for a more than games for the hardcore players, or even games for that matter. Obviously consoles do have to shed that old coat of being frivolous to "normal" people.
