View Full Version : Indie Developer "Off Season?"

In previous months, I have had good luck in finding enough contracts for my game music service for the next month's expenses. This month is exceptionally slow. Is this the "off season" for indie developers or something?

I recently made my website much more "shiny" and upscale, I wonder if it gives the impression that I am unaffordable.

Has anyone else here experienced "off season" (music contractors, artists or programmers)? Developers, is this a time to take a break?

Perhaps everybody is getting back from holidays? I know I am (was).

First of all...

Great music you made there... I've just bookmarked you for when I reach the part of adding the audio to my game, depending on prices (and from what I've seen from your music and reviews of your work) you'll probably just got another customer. ;)

Secondly,

Its August...Beach... sun, lots of female skin showing (also lots of male skin showing as well, so I wont be called a sexist)... who care's about games? :D
Just kidding.. its probably due to the holiday factor...
Now I'm off to the beach and learn how to surf...

LOL,

You know, it is so easy for me to forget, since I live 5 minutes from Daytona Beach. I am such a vampire... For my northern skin, 101 degrees doesn't seem like a fair price to pay for the eye candy.

Speaking of prices, I look forward to hearing from you when you need music or audio. Thanks for the compliment. If you are a relatively average indie developer, you can probably afford me.

Same trend here! :) So, let's wait till Autumn to get things going!

I believe this is pretty reasonable explanation. Vacation time - all serious peoples who really make some money to spend them on good music get a break.

Contracts - plural - to meet 1 month's expenses? Do you have really expensive months? Or is each of your contracts really small? If the latter, I hope the overhead of finding, negotiating, and securing the work is worth it for you. That is, I hope it's really really easy for you and not an overhead at all. Otherwise I'd suggest you may not be charging enough.

No idea. Thought I'd give you a website review though.

Why would you want to look cheap? Cheap website, cheap clients.

Regarding your website: the initial stuff, "here's my music," is great! Good to shove it right out in front of a potential client. Especially with all the credits and quotes etc.

Ditch the ugly photo of your computer. It looks unprofessional, whether it's what professionals actually use or not. Ditch the "PC 2GHz" in your list of studio equipment. Sounds amateurish to be telling us you've got a PC. I've got a PC, so my marketing impression is you're telling me you have something I also have. I want to hire people for things I don't have. Keep the list of all the music softwares and hardwares. Those are things that a music dummy like me doesn't have. They have inherent oooh and aaah value, they sound impressive.
