I am getting ready for a final in a graduate level algorithms class I am taking. The professor gave us practice problems, which are basically six problems from the book Introduction to Algorithms, 2nd Ed.
As I go through these, I recognize some from the last time I took this class (I got a D, so I am retaking). While I am confident in my abilities, I am having trouble solving some of the problems. Google doesn't help much, and since the problems are in the book, the only answers are probably in the professor's manual, which is exclusive to them.
Which brings me to my point: this book isn't just useful for class. I see it advertised in non-education sites like Gamedev.net and others. And yet, when you're trying to teach yourself, if you're stuck on a problem, what recourse do you have?
Has anyone else experienced this situation, where they are reading a good book that just happens to be used as a textbook and would like the answers to the practice questions provided but can't get them?
While having the answers would be cheating for the purposes of my final tonight, what about those who aren't in school and reading it? What do you do then?
