If you're interested in 3d modeling and learning the various techniques used and programs available etc... I ran into this really nice little 3d modeling course with lots of images. It's a great overview if it's something you're new to but interested in learning.

The tutorial I ended up using when I first started looking into it was the articles on the Steam mods wiki. The tutorials on building a Counterstrike Source model were pretty well done.
