Vancouver's Grubby Games is seeking an enthusiastic programmer for the development of "indie" and casual games for both PC and consoles. In our small but growing studio, we currently develop games in teams of two (one artist and one programmer). We take great pride in our games, and each one is lovingly crafted with great attention to detail. As the only programmer developing a given game, candidates will work with our existing codebase to build the game from the ground-up. Our ideal candidate will have a natural sense of game "feel", and strong physics and math skills.
Under the supervision of the Technical Director, the programmer will code the entire game: Gameplay, UI, level editor, high score system, etc. The programmer will also collaborate with the game designer and artist to ensure that project vision is maintained and that the gameplay is implemented as intended. We foster an open, creative atmosphere where the input of all team members is encouraged.
Qualifications
Ideal candidates should be:
university graduates with a computer science or engineering degree
proficient with C++
naturally able to code in an object-oriented manner
skilled in mathematics and physics
interested in creating 2D games
attentive to detail
willing to accept and provide direction
strong with written and verbal communication
able to cooperate creatively on a team level
good at managing their time; able to meet development milestones
self-directed, requiring little supervision
adept at problem solving and creative thinking
legally able to work in Canada
In order for Grubby Games to receive partial government funding for this position, candidates MUST:
be between the ages of 18 and 30
be a recent post graduate (within the last 2 years)
be currently unemployed in their field
not have received funding in any other Youth Internship
be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident
Pluses
experience with Mac OS X and Linux
able to provide sample code from previous game projects
Successful applicants will be working with us in our soon-to-open office in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
To apply, please send your cover letter and resume to jobs@grubbygames.com.
