Best advertising value?

I've got $400us to spend on advertising, and I'd like to get the most value for it that I can.

My product is a multiplayer game, Avelia Pet Adventures (http://www.aggressivegames.com/avelia.htm).

Since it's not a traditional game (no demo and full versions), I don't think the portals would be interested (but tell me if I'm mistaken).

So where have you put your most effective ad dollars? Where do you think I could get some traction for my money?

google adwords or adbrite should be worth a spend. Don't expect to see instant smash results, you are best of spreading those dollars over a long campaign if it's all you have. If you have the time, go through the google analytics stuff and set up your site so you can tell if a purchase came from an ad buy.
