Hi
I just bought Software Passport and am learning to use it effectively. I noticed that I can verify keys by hardware fingerprint, but is it a common practise in casual world? It has pros & cons - but I am not decided if it is a good thing in this business.

I use Armadillo, but not the hardware options because I want to keep things simple and customer-friendly. I guess even without hardware fingerprints Armadillo offers far more security than required for a casual audience.

No. I want my customers to be able to install it on whatever PC they like. I've had a few get in touch to ask me how they can install it on their work PC or whatever, and they're often surprised to learn that they can just install and go. I guess some people must be hardware locking, but I want to discourage casual piracy, not punish and inconvenience my paying customers.

What happens if they buy a new computer or upgrade? I would be seriously annoyed if my purchase was locked to one machine only and would make sure never to buy from that company again.

We are having some trouble with Armadillo and AOL.
Here's some info about the problem:

Skip hardware fingerprint, keep it simple for the honest customers out there and let them play it on several machines.

One guy in the past emailed us that he won't be buying the game if he cannot install it to several machines... I suppose hardware fingerprint is annoying, so I'm also recommend to skip it.

If you choose to use the "hardware footprint" method, you're going to alienate customers that want to buy the game as a gift for a friend or family, and also those that want to play the game at both home and work.
