It feels so familiar doesn't it? We blatantly copied the forum structure of the dexterity forums to help people feel at home and also to keep any potential data transfer as simple as possible. We hope to preserve the essence of what made the Dexterity forums and its community so great.

On behalf of the MikeB, Svero, and myself, I would like to welcome each of you to what we hope will be a resource every bit as beneficial as the Dexterity forums were.

Thanks for the effort. Now let's see if it takes me another two years to get to 250 posts...

Shouldn't you disable avatars? I saw some options about it, but maybe it's already disabled or shouldn't be?

I wanted to change my username and this was a great opportunity to do it.
I saw that Mike Boeh did change to Retro64 so I wasn't the only one. ;)

Looks good so far :)

But that reply form has odd (ugly) colors... and I prefer having the author on the left side (reading lines that long is somewhat tiresome).

Well, I hope this board gets as useful as the old one has been.

Hehe, this is eerily similar. Now we just need the Dexterity logo in the upper left corner. :p j/k

Anyway, great job guys! If you ever need any help just let me know.

Btw Svero, are you ever going to start doing Indie reviews/interviews on Indiegamer again? :D I enjoyed the interviews you had posted.

*tap tap* one two one two.

Thanks guys, I'd have had to do some work without forums to distract me.

Yes, the forums are up, but barely. They are running on bone stock settings. When I get home from work I'm going to go through and configure them. I'll the the names over on the side in a nice compact format.

SteveP posted on the moderator forums on Friday about the impending retirement of the Dexterity forums; naturally we were concerned about loosing the community we have all come to enjoy over the past two and a half years. Neither of us wanted the responsibility of running the forums alone so we called in a few favors, Mike had the available resources (and the cash to buy a permanent license of VBulliten) (thanks again mike) so it all came together.

Lizardsoft has agreed to reprise his moderator roll over here and we're very happy to have him. I'm very excited, and mostly just plain relieved that the community won't have to fall apart.

The Dex forums were the single best place to meet other like minded indies on the net. I've even met a few in my area that I wouldn't have met otherwise. I hope that we can continue that here at the indiegamer forums...

Yep. I just finished rewriting the back end to indiegamer. Its full mysql now with a set of editing pages and so on. I took a long time because my priority always has to be twilight or I dont get to pay the rent and eat. So it's definitely coming back...

Looking good.
I'd like to second Linusson's opinion about disabling avatars. I've never seen one single forum where they haven't got out of control eventually.

Great work fellas. I hope the spirit of the Dexterty forums remains intact after the transition too. Thanks for putting in the effort of setting up the forums.
I for one hope all the original posts can be maintained, although if they're not we can always tell all the old stories again!
Cheers,
Ciaran.

I nearly forgot to resister an account :)
Nice to see my short list of people I'd trust with the Dexterity DB are actually nearly the same getting this show on the road : eerie, or what ? ;)
Good stuff.

Edit : It's too early (less than a coffee in) for me to even realize I'm not in the thread I though I was, cue what follows :

Oh, this is a roll call thread. Oh well :
I'm nquijano, an alco..., erh, an Indie Game Dev :)

Here's to at least another 2.5 years of indie glee..
Nah, make that 2.5*2.5 !! ;)

Ah... much better now :)

Except that reply form thingy. It still looks like something from the 80ies ;)

Hm. After exermining the source. The style sheet should be external. That would save about 25% traffic (because it allows the browser to cache it). There are also some js pieces which should be external (like the rest of em).

It is great to see that the forums will live on - thanks to everyone that made the move happen (and a big thanks to the new host).

ahh, I'm going to miss Steve's audacious writing style. :(

Owners/moderators please feel free to post requests for money and or other help etc. etc. eg. paypal donation button. No more sudden "I want out".

Seriously, these forums are a life saver. :p
